Today, reports have been published in the press regarding Tatjana Ždanoka MEP contacts with Russian intelligence.

We wish to express our deep concern upon learning of this news. The integrity and independence of EU democracy is of paramount importance to EFA. Tatjana Ždanoka MEP was a member of the Greens/EFA Group in the European Parliament until April 4, 2022, when she was asked to leave the group for her refusal to condemn Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. Concurrently, her party, the Latvian-Russian Union, was suspended from EFA membership on April 8 2022, for a period of one year. Upon learning of this new information, EFA has swiftly taken action by opening an internal investigation. The Bureau of EFA will meet on Wednesday in Brussels to take further action in this matter according to the information received.  EFA strongly condemns Putin’s regime in the Russian Federation. EFA has consistently stood in solidarity with the Ukrainian people against Russian aggression and has steadfastly advocated for EU autonomy, as expressed in our statements on 24th February 2022, 4th October 2022, and 24th February 2023, and motion approved by EFA GA 2022. Any actions that threaten EU independence from foreign influences are deeply concerning to us. The post EFA Statement on the recent informations appeared first on EFA - European Free Alliance.
