On the 2020 State BudgetThe General State Budget was approved with the abstention of the entire left and the NAP and with the votes against the right and the far right.

The only party to approve the 2020 Budget was the FREE PS. The left, by political taticism, has not been able to dialogue or be consequent with the mandate that the Portuguese gave to this parliament. As a result, the final version of the 2020 State Budget falls short of what THE FREE would want and what would be possible in terms of social justice and environmental justice. In the negotiations between THE FREE and the government had been positively signaled several measures that THE FREE presented. Of these, it resulted in the approval of some important measures: the creation of a mission structure for the New Green New Deal - which LIVRE has been advocating since 2014. This investment and job creation plan in the green economy is essential to carry out the ecological and energy transition that our society needs to address the threat of climate change and biodiversity loss. The European Ecological Pact recently presented by the European Commission does not represent a sufficiently ambitious plan to combat these fighting. THE FREE Will continue to strive for Portugal to take over a New Green Pact and contribute to its implementation on A European scale, strengthening the protection of victims of domestic violence, through the readiness of legal aid and exemption from fees in cases parallel to persons with victim status, the review of criteria and calculation formula for the maximum reference allocation of non-teaching staff, which will allow to correct the problem of lack of staff in several schools, ensuring better functioning strengthening social action in higher education depending on the cost of local living of the University, thus accommodating the disproportion of prices – namely housing – existing throughout the country, the allocation of funds for the musealization of casa do Passal in Cabanas de Viriato, Carregal do Sal, allowing to maintain the memory and legacy of Aristides de Sousa Mendes.Unfortunately some of the proposals of the FREE that had had positive signaling by the government during the negotiations ended up snoting. This was the case of the equalization of teaching careers in higher education and research – a measure that LIVRE considers essential for science and scientific research in Portugal, or the strengthening of 120 clinical psychologists for health centres (although welcome the approval of the implementation of the National Mental Health Plan), or the need for a national mining plan subject to Strategic Environmental Assessment.LIVRE has always advocated, and continues to advocate, multilateral dialogue between all for the construction of a progressive front that can implement a social justice and environmental justice program for Portugal.
