Zero tolerance for anyone involved in corruption casesGrape Statement by Eleni Mavrou, member of the ACPL Political Bureau Yesterday's reports by the journalistic organisation Al Jazeera and occRP (International Observatory for Organised Crime and Corruption) bring back an issue that has long been a pain in Cyprus – institutional corruption and interconnection.References to a minister's involvement in issuing a passport to a Russian wanted by Interpol, references to the irregular procedure for granting the citizenship of the Republic of Cyprus to the family of the Saudi friend of President Anastasiades are not answered with evasiveness that did not convince anyone.

It undermines institutions, democracy, equality. It is no accident that 68% of Cypriots believe that the government of our country is dependent on private interests. But none of this seems to concern the rulers. Because, quite simply, the Anastasiades government itself is part of the problem. We repeat now that:– The government must give convincing, clear answers to all the accusations against it.– The Attorney General must investigate in depth the new complaints and lead those involved in the accountability and punishment. It will end when we convince, inside and outside Cyprus, that the feast of greed, opacity and interconnection has come to an end.
