"It is unacceptable that every year, 20 million cubic meters of wood be cut illegally.

I will initiate a debate, with all the actors in this area, in the Committee on the Environment and Ecological Balance of the Chamber of Deputies. We could even propose the establishment of a Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry into illegal deforestation"The Romanian State, if it cares about its identity and national wealth, must not tolerate any more illegal logging of timber. They (about 20 million cubic meters annually) reportedly ended up exceeding the volume of authorised cuts. Countless media signals about this serious phenomenon are now added to journalists from the Netflix platform, which will broadcast a documentary about illegal timber cuttings in centuries-old forests or parks from November 27.  such as the Retezat National Park or the Domogled-Valea Cernei National Park.Due to these illegal cuts in the Ciucevele Cernei forest – part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Romania risks soon losing this important status. I believe that the Romanian state must react with an integrated response to all this robbery made in the name of immediate profit and not be overtaken by this phenomenon year after year. I will invite to the first meeting of the Committee on the Environment and Ecological Balance of the Chamber of Deputies, whose Chair I am, all institutional actors with responsibilities in the field (Ministry of Environment, Water and Forests, Romsilva, Forest Guard, Police, Gendarmerie, National Environmental Guard, etc.), environmental NGOs, those in the industry, to identify all urgent legislative measures, and beyond, that are necessary. I will also invite the Recorder, Netflix, to all the journalists who have made documentaries, reports of illegal deforestation. We need to find out the whole truth about the phenomenon of repeated abuses on forests, implicitly on the environment, a phenomenon that is increasingly becoming a risk to Romania's national security.
