The deputy of Compromís and spokesman for the commission of Industry and Trade, tourism and new technologies, Aitana Mas, has presented an initiative so that the Cortes urge the Council to study, through tourism Comunitat Valenciana, the situation and the potential of geological tourism in the Valencian Country, as well as the possible economic and environmental impact of its development and promotion.

According to the deputy spokesman of the parliamentary group Compromís, "it is necessary to review the list of cavities included in the catalogue of caves of the Valencian Community, in Decree 65/2006, of 12 May, of the Consell, in order to verify its situation and its potential. In addition to providing the competent counseling and general management with the technical and economical means necessary to achieve this purpose. And, in the same vein, it has to study and promote, through Turisme Comunidad Valenciana, the adaptation of other caves in order to evaluate its incorporation as a tourist resource of the municipalities where they are located. " "In our territory we have an important wealth of caves, all of them with different characteristics, which give enormous value to our geological heritage and basement. However, not all of them are natural caves open to tourism. At present, we have five tourist caves located in different regions throughout the community: in the lower plain region we find the Cova de Sant Josep, in the Vall D'uixó; In La Marina Alta we have both the Cova de les Calaveres and the Cova de Rull, located in Benidoleig and Vall D'ebo. In the Vall de cofrentes we have the Cova de Don Juan, in the municipality of Jalance, and finally, in L'alacantí are the caves of Canelobre, in Busot ". "Moreover, in the year 2019, the II Ibero-American Congress and the VII Spanish Congress of tourist caves in La Vall D'uixó were held, turning this municipality into Castellonenc during the celebration of the world capital of geological and basement tourism". "From Compromís we consider that the development of this tourism, subject to an appropriate management of natural resources, allows us to guarantee the preservation of the tourist caves of which we currently have. It also facilitates the possibility of studying the situation in which there are the different caves that we have throughout our geography, in order to see if these resources can be suitable for this type of tourism. All this would allow support to the municipalities that are already developing this tourism and, on the other hand, open the door to those who could potentially incorporate this tourist offer to their development strategy ". "In communities like the Basque Country and Extremadura, this tourism has experienced considerable growth, thanks to the proper management of the policies that in this area have been adopted. Moreover, geological tourism means a potential element of a territory, as it brings tourists closer to the inland towns. This is why caves can be a key resource as a driving force for local economies, as well as an important element that diversives the tourist offer of the whole region of Valencia ", the deputy Aitana Mas has concluded.
