"At the suggestion of the then President Egils Levits, in 2021 the Law "On Holidays, Remembrances and Commemorations" was supplemented with a new day to be celebrated on October 15 - the State Language Day. This date is not chosen by chance. On October 15, 1998, the constitutional value of the State was enshrined in Article 4 of the Constitution: "The state language in the Republic of Latvia is the Latvian language."
