"A rezoning prevents the further decay of our valuable heritage," says De Gucht. The hearings take place on Thursday 20 February 2020.Flanders today has more than 1,800 parish churches, half of which are protected. Due to the increasing secularization, much of the church heritage is becoming increasingly disused. "To combat the decline of our heritage, Open Vld advocates rezoning," says De Gucht. "It is up to the government to facilitate and manage this rezoning, of course in consultation with the church authorities and the local residents." The number of redestinations is very low today. In the past five years, only 61 churches out of a total of 1,800 have been outof the world. In order to take further steps in re-tuning ecclesiastical heritage, the Flemish Parliament organises hearings on Thursday 20 February 2020 with the stakeholders of the sector of the real estate. Speaking: the Knowledge Centre Flemish Cities (which will also give a presentation on behalf of the VVSG and Project Bureau Rezoning Kerken), the Centre for Religious Art and Culture (CRKC), the Real Heritage Agency, the Flemish Architect and the competent ministers Bart Somers (responsible for domestic governance) and Matthias Diependaele (responsible for real estate).
