"The PS is a party that is aware of its position," the socialist leader told reporters, reiterating that the party "is prepared to be in opposition." A solid opposition, a strong opposition", he emphasized, expressing satisfaction, not only for the great participation achieved in this National Political Commission, but also for the "clear consensus on the strategy that was defined and presented" by himself, both on election night and in the audience he had with the President of the Republic, last Tuesday.

We have the party aligned with a strategic orientation and that is good", stressed Pedro Nuno Santos. No with regard to the new government panorama leveraged with the nomination of the AD leader as Prime Minister, the Secretary-General of the PS said he hoped that the new Government "has listened" to the socialist availability, so that, he pointed out, "matters on which there is consensus can be quickly answered". On this point, he expressed "great satisfaction" with the statements made by Luís Montenegro about his availability to make an amending budget viable, considering that they demonstrate that "there are conditions to value some professional groups in the public administration". I note with satisfaction the sense of responsibility of the Prime Minister-designate", said the socialist leader, reinforcing that Montenegro's statements are "a sign that there are conditions" for Portugal to have "a more qualified public administration, to value careers, the salary scales of teachers, security forces, health professionals, not just doctors, and bailiffs". It is, he said, "a very important statement." It means that we are in a position to move forward and resolve the situation of these public administration professionals by the summer and, therefore, we note this statement with great pleasure", he highlighted. Without fueling speculation about possible pressure from the right, Pedro Nuno Santos recalled that this is "the time for the Prime Minister to form a government." The PS has to wait to get to know this executive naturally, calmly", he maintained, and then stressed that "the party will do its job, as an opposition. It's as simple as that." Regarding the next composition of the board of the Assembly of the Republic, Pedro Nuno Santos only mentioned that "at the right time, the Socialist Party will present its candidacies". Refusing to advance names to preside over the new parliamentary bench of the PS, Pedro Nuno Santos pointed out that tomorrow, Saturday 23, "the party will still have a meeting of the National Commission", in Viseu, and also with the presidents of the federation. We will make, at the right time, the announcements we have to make," he concluded.
