"The Liberal Initiative schedules a debate with one purpose: from repeal to repeal, to totally and again surrender housing to the laws of the market", denounced Maria Begonha during the debate in Parliament, in which she also noted that the Government "does not seem interested in governing, but reversing, revoking, exonerating and, citing ipsis verbis the PSD in its project, 'eliminate the counter-reforms' of the PS, instead of proposing its own." Now, "despite the opposition and indifference of the right, which in housing just wanted everything to stay the same", the governments of the Socialist Party created "the largest reform of public investment in housing, a path that created the largest program of rehabilitation and construction of houses to end housing shortages" – the 1st Right, pointed out the socialist.

Adding that the 1st Right also guarantees access to the middle classes, Maria Begonha recalled that the PS presented the More Housing program at the "worst moment of the housing crisis", despite the "blatant opposition from the right". Admitting that "the housing crisis is far from having an end in sight", the vice-president of the socialist bench regretted that, "with this Government and with this new parliamentary right", housing is "at stake for the first time, after almost a decade". As the Socialist Party wants to continue to move forward, instead of starting over from scratch, it presented a project with a "concrete and immediate effect to help the Portuguese face housing costs, making a progressive increase in rent deductions in terms of IRS so that, by 2028, we reach 800 euros," he explained. It is an initiative in line with the proposals we made in the election campaign, to continue to impose limits on rent increases, to continue to expand access to and protection of the house, protection that is under threat today", assured the PS deputy. Maria Begonha then warned that "the Liberal Initiative goes so far in its ideological agenda" that it argues that "even the oldest contracts, prior to 1990 – the overwhelming majority of which are elderly – should not be protected." It needs to be clear in this debate that the agenda of the Liberal Initiative is politically harmful and dangerous for the middle class in Portugal and for those with whom the State has more obligations," he denounced. The vice-president of the PS Parliamentary Group therefore appealed to the right, in particular the one that supports the Government, to "have the humility that they have sometimes lacked to recognize that the housing crisis is being fought on all fronts".
