The Deputy Secretary General of the PS, José Luís Carneiro, said on Saturday that the socialist municipal political process is based on a programmatic vision for the development of the country and respect for local communities, along with the heritage of values and heritage of public policies of the party.

Intervening in the closing session of the meeting of concelhias of the District Federation of Setúbal of the PS, held in digital format, José Luís Carneiro defended that there are "two fundamental vectors" in the conduct of the political process of the PS for the next municipal elections, scheduled for September or October this year." On the one hand, a programmatic vision, articulated with a vision for the development of the country, which has to rely on the voices of all local communities – and the voices of local communities are the voices of our citizens and our citizens, who trust the Socialist Party and that we want them to strengthen that trust in the candidates and candidacies of the socialist party" , he said." On the other hand, the candidacies, and those who will interpret this programmatic view, can never forget that they are interpreters of a heritage, of a heritage of values, but also of a heritage of public policies, which has historically made the PS remain the great Portuguese party of local democratic power", added the socialist leader. José Luís Carneiro also said he was convinced that the Socialist Party will continue to be "the greatest political force in the local democratic power in Portugal", giving as an example the work carried out in the district of Setúbal, where the Socialists have been gaining ground with the conquest of some municipalities, having currently the majority in the municipalities of Alcochete, Almada, Barreiro, Montijo and Sines.Na their intervention , the Deputy Secretary General also recalled the "historic result" of the PS in the 2013 municipal elections, reinforced four years later, in 2017, reiterating the ambition to reaffirm itself, with the Portuguese, as the largest party of local government." The Socialist Party has even become the party with a majority of chambers, in a very expressive way and (...) we firmly believe that in the next municipal elections it will continue to be the largest party Portuguese, with a majority of municipalities in the National Association of Portuguese," he said. And also - as we believe - the largest party in the National Association of Parishes", concluded José Luís Carneiro.
