Concern about the recent statements made by Mr TatarStatement of Secretary General K.E.

AKEL Androu Kyprianou I want to express our deep concern at Mr Tatar's recent statements. That is to say, the process of settlement of Famagusta will be accelerated. These statements are provocative and unacceptable. They violate the relevant UN Resolutions and are reprehensible. He must take them very seriously. The necessary appeals must be made in various directions, but we must be under no illusions. The only thing that can end both these provocative statements and Turkey's other provocative actions is the resumption of substantive negotiations with a view to a shorter solution to the Cyprus problem. A solution based, of course, on the agreed framework, on the relevant UN Resolutions, on the High Level Agreements, on the principles on which the EU is based and on international law.
