We wish yougood and fruitful debates to continue your work to improve the livelihoods of the Cypriotworking people. We are sure that you will conclude this Congress stronger and more unitedto continue pursuing this struggle.Izquierda Unida and AKEL share many common struggles. As Left forces from SouthernEurope, we have the responsibility of working together to fight the neoliberal impositions ofthe European Union and building an alternative for our peoples. We have worked closelytogether in different spaces, such as our political group in the European Parliament or theEuropean Forum of Progressive Forces, and look forward to continue doing so. Thecollaboration between both our political forces is fundamental to build an alternative inEurope that challenges capitalism and imperialism and protects the rights of the workingpeople.We take the occasion to congratulate you on the results of your latest parliamentaryelection. Despite the victory of the right-wing, you have confirmed your position as one ofEurope’s strongest Left forces, and these results are an important reference for all of us.The ties between Izquierda Unida and AKEL are strong and will continue to be so. We have ahistorical commitment to a peaceful and fair resolution to the Cyprus conflict in line withinternational law. We have always defended the immediate withdrawal of the occupyingTurkish army and the reunification of the island.
