Brussels, 28 April 2021 – The European Parliament is today dealing with a resolution calling, among other things, for compensation for the survivors of the Vrbětice attack.

The resolution is being pushed by pirate MEP Markéta Gregorová. In addition to the explosion in Vrbětice, the resolution also addresses the threat to Ukraine's borders and the deteriorating health of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny." In the case of the explosion of munition depots, our allies stood up for the Czech Republic, and thanks to this we were able to afford to establish ambassadoric parity in our embassies. Thanks to support from our allies and partners, we were able to show the Russian Federation that we are a sovereign country that the Kremlin will not use as it suits it," Margarita Gregor said at the plenary session today." I greatly appreciate the support we receive from the entire European Parliament. Not only did our demands for compensation for the families of citizens who died in the Vrbětice explosion seven years ago included in the resolution. We also received support in excluding Rosatom from the tender for the Dukovan construction," Gregorová said. The reaction of the Russian Federation also shows that when the EU unites and sets out a red line, it has an impact. 27 fragmented foreign policies will always be weaker than one strong one. Let this be a lesson to our future dealings with the Kremlin. Let this be a lesson to our future dealings with the Kremlin," she added. I therefore call on us not to let Moscow constantly test what else we can withstand without reacting. Czech victims of the attack in Vrbětice deserve compensation, Alexei Navalny must receive health care, Ukraine needs guarantees of safety. Czechs, Navalny and Ukrainians should not face Russian aggression alone. All Europeans must rely on a strong and united European Union at their backs, and it is our responsibility," Gregor concluded her speech.
