Today, the Fidesz majority voted down the LMP's proposal on the "air fare tax" submitted by the LMP in the Economic Committee of the Parliament.

Fidesz, which paints itself green by all means, does not consider it important to reduce the most polluting mode of transport. The government's climate action plan is not green. Aviation is one of the most polluting modes of transport: it is responsible for 5% of climate change, and the number of passengers is growing unbroken and there is no technology to curb emissions. At the same time, it receives huge hidden and open subsidies: airlines do not have to pay taxes on kerosene, so the government gives them 74 billion HUF in excise duty and 68 billion FORINTS of VAT per year, and in addition, it is far from paid for environmental and health damage that is being done to society. By voting down the LMP proposal, Fidesz has once again sided with the large climate-killing companies instead of protecting the interests of the Hungarian people and the healthy environment. At the committee meeting, Fidesz also voted against the LMP's proposal to reduce VAT on public transport. Viktor Orban's cynical attitude to green affairs shows that his party has even sabotaged a proposal that would have made public transport an attractive alternative to the use of cars for many more people.
