The KDH calls on the Minister of the Environment to allow appropriate hunting associations in municipalities where a bear is believed to be possible to intervene against bears in municipalities.

The current government politicians were full of talk of quick solutions to bear problems before the election. After the elections, there was no miracle solution. The environment ministry could have been better prepared for such cases," warns KDH MP and member of the National Council of the Slovak Republic Committee for Agriculture and the Environment Marián ČAUČÍK.According to current legislation, members of the brown bear intervention team can eliminate problem individuals. "In cases such as happened in Liptovský Mikuláš, time is at stake, in which case it is important to cooperate with police officers and hunters who are on site and can use the institute of extreme emergency to eliminate the threat of an attacking bear," ČAUČÍK said. "At the same time, it is essential to ensure that police forces are trained to be ready to intervene against bears or other creatures that threaten people's life and health. We are convinced that it is also necessary to update the government's Brown Bear Care Program and enable regulation of its abundance," explains KDH legal expert Jozef Humenský. KDH also draws attention to the fact that, last but not least, the environment ministry should urgently draw up rules for compensation after carnivore attacks for victims who have suffered damage to health and life, as well as damage to property caused by carnivores primarily to farmers.
