The National Security Plan for 2022-2025 shows that tax fraud will no longer be a top priority for the police, only with special attention.

Waste fraud and other forms of environmental crime also belong to the so-called 'residual' category in this plan. This was also a top priority in the previous Security Plan, just like tax fraud. Green MPs Eva Platteau and Stefaan Van Hecke respond: "Serious tax fraud and environmental violations deserve more attention and should not be removed from the list of priorities." According to the Green politicians, both Minister Verlinden and Minister Van Quickenborne have indicated in their policy documents that they want to focus specifically on this. Eva Platteau, federal member of parliament Groen: "The Minister of the Interior indicated that the police capacity will be focused as a priority on combating certain phenomena and criminal organizations and structures that have a very negative impact on society, including 'serious and organized financial crime', including tax fraud. Incomprehensible that this is suddenly swept off the table." The Minister of Justice has also set clear priorities. Mp Stefaan Van Hecke: "In his policy document, the Minister of Justice indicated that he would free up resources within the judiciary for tackling tax fraud. There is also still a shortage of more than 300 forces at the FGP for tackling this problem and he is also committed to an improvement in this area in his policy document." Environmental criminal law also deserves, according to the Ecolo-Groen group, just the necessary attention. This was proven by, among other things, the 3M scandal in Zwijndrecht.  "In that context, too, the Minister of Justice has committed himself in his policy document for 2022, including additional training and specialized environmental magistrates. Unacceptable that this is put in the 'rest' category," says Van Hecke. The priorities that the police put forward in the NVP are therefore in serious conflict with the government's policy priorities. Platteau and Van Hecke: "We therefore do not agree at all with the list of priorities as presented today. Serious tax fraud and environmental violations deserve more attention and should not be removed from the list of priorities." Ecolo-Groen asks ministers Verlinden and Van Quickenborne for more explanation. But minister Van Peteghem must also, according to the Greens, come and give a text and explanation. "He is responsible minister for tax and social fraud, and has also developed a fraud plan. We cannot accept the signal that is now being given by the government," Platteau and Van Hecke conclude.
