To the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Lithuania, the Government of the Republic of Lithuania: petition for the protection of the Giruliai forest for the development of the part of klaipėda railway node for the enterprise "LTG Infra", 2020.

Decision No 721 of 1 July on the development plans for the transport engineering infrastructure of the part of the trans-European TRANSPORT CORRIDOR IX B in Klaipeda" gave the launch of specific planning documents providing for the development of a critical state-critical project. We demand that any alternatives that may have a negative impact on the Melnrage-Girulis forest should be abandoned in the development of plans and specific design solutions. Therefore, we ask to supplement Resolution No. 721 of the Government of the RL of 1 July 2020 establishing a provision establishing the protection of the Melnragės-Girulių forest from felling. The Melnrage-Girulis forest is rich in rare and endangered species of wild plants, fungi and animals, their communities and habitats. It also contributes to good air quality support, noise management, the fight against climate change, and provides ecosystem and recreational services to the population. Efforts must be made to strengthen these functions, to protect the forest from felling. The economic interests of the state cannot be raised above the environmental interests. Compromises need to be sought on the outcome of the state's economic growth, nature protection and public health and welfare interests.
