Andersson expresses deep concern about the decision of the Forest Industry and technology industry to leave collective bargaining and emphasises that the decisions will have a large, far-reaching effects on all employees.– The government must first take the necessary steps to strengthen the position of shop steward in the law so that organized workers continue to have a skilled and trained representative who can negotiate and exercise a say on their behalf, and who in doing so enjoys protection from the arbitrary, pressure and intimidation of employers.– Our welfare state is built through work and industrial action, and now employers' unions are stating this model.

The message from business owners is that there is no interest in agreeing, and value is not seen in the way in which the minimum working conditions in this country are secure for everyone," Andersson continues. Finland's labour market model is based on employees and employers negotiating with each other both on wages and other key working conditions. Given the weak negotiating position of individual employees in relation to a stronger employer organisation, workers' rights have been taken care of by organising themselves in a trade union and negotiating together on key labour issues. Now the scrapping of the contract culture threatens to further differentiate the labour market.– Then we are no longer talking about people on two or three floors, but about a block of flats working on different working conditions and wages and competing against each other. This is not the line of the Left Alliance. Our line is solidarity, confidence-building and mutual agreement. We want to make sure that no one's rights are trampled under way," he says. Andersson also encourages updating outdated perceptions of the importance of the trade union movement throughout the country.– The trade union movement is about every Finnish employee, how much midwives or store cashiers are paid, how many employees account for the profits generated by their work for companies, and how to prevent the exploitation of vulnerable people in working life. In his speech, Andersson also commented on the results of the mid-term review and the plight of the cultural sector. Read the full speech here.
