Prague, 18 May 2008 February 2020 – Under my auspices, a seminar on the Committee on the Environment of the Chamber of Deputies is held today entitled "Price, quality and availability of drinking water".

I organised the seminar mainly to bring the topic closer to Members who will decide on water in the Czech Republic in the coming weeks. At present, the Chamber of Deputies is debating the amendment to the Water Act as well as a proposal for constitutional water protection. It is the amendment to the Water Act that will be discussed tomorrow by the Environment Committee. The Czech Republic has faced excessive drought in recent years, with a major water shortage in the countryside. One of the seminar's conclusions is that, given the decline in groundwater levels, the use of surface resources will be increasing. However, due to climate change and human activity, there is a long-term limit on pollutants and chemicals, such as pesticides or medicines, as well as pollution by sinica and algae. Today's seminar provided instructions on how to combat drought and water scarcity on our territory. New water resources need to be actively sought, invested in drinking water treatment technologies and support the landscape so that it is able to perform its function in water retention. In order to contain water in the landscape, it is necessary to work on legislative support for aquatic ecosystems, to provide protection zones around water resources and to change the way the countryside is farmed. For Pirates, the topic of protection of underground and surface water sources is a priority, which is why today for the first time the Pirate Group has sat, which will deal intensively with the issue of water and sewerage management and maintenance.
